If nine tracks are from 1975 and one from 2010, all ten songs will show as 2010. Meaning, if you have one Reggae song and nine Rock songs on the album, all ten songs on the album will have Reggae and Rock as genres. Its internal structure is album-centric: for example it cannot store individual years and genres for a song, only per-album. It doesn’t support multiple artists (neither for songs nor for albums, it just uses the first artist and ignores all subsequent ones), and fields like Composer, Remixer, Conductor, Producer, etc are not read/used. Plex does not read all tags and has a few metadata quirks. Plex reads tags, but indeed also takes into account folder/filenames, so it helps to follow their naming guidelines This can grow big with libraries this size, easily 40 GB or so. Plex caches album covers in its working folder, usually on the OS drive. The initial scan will take a long time (we’re talking days) for a library that size, it matches each album against Musicbrainz, and also performs sonic analysis on each file. I’m running a library of 170,000 tracks, it works well.
