One year later, Spider-Man met Max Dillon and encouraged him when Dillon believed he himself was a nobody, making Dillon a massive fan of Spider-Man. Spider-Man created the Lizard Antidote and administered Lizard the cure that transformed him back to his human form. Spider-Man and Lizard clashed when the latter tried to turn everyone in New York City into lizards like himself. Spider-Man's first great enemy was Lizard, who he figured out was Connors who injected himself with the prototype of a regenerative serum to regain his lost limb. Parker also met the brilliant Oscorp scientist Curt Connors and became a couple with Gwen Stacy, who was aware of his dual identity. One night, his uncle Ben Parker told him a philosophy about power and responsibility, and later that night, Ben was killed, devastating Parker and motivating him to embrace Ben's philosophy and become the superhero Spider-Man. Peter Parker was bitten by a genetically enhanced spider, gaining spider-like powers and abilities. Finally, after the villains had been cured, Spider-Man embraced his alternate selves before being returned to his home universe by Strange. During the fight, Spider-Man managed to make up for his past failure by saving Jones from a long fall. There, the three Spider-Men, and Otto Octavius, combated several universe-displaced villains to have them cured of their afflictions. Learning that Lizard and Electro had also crossed universes, Spider-Man recreated an antidote for Lizard to use in a subsequent battle at Liberty Island. Later, due to an error in Doctor Strange's spell, Spider-Man was summoned to Strange's universe, meeting that reality's Spider-Man along with another alternate-reality Spider-Man, as well as with Michelle Jones and Ned Leeds. Unfortunately, after failing to save his girlfriend Gwen Stacy from falling to her death, a guilt-ridden Parker fell victim to his own rage, becoming an embittered and violent vigilante. In the past, Spider-Man fought against multiple villains, including Lizard and Electro, who individually terrorized his home city. Peter Benjamin Parker is a superhero who possesses spider-like abilities and operates in New York City as the amazing Spider-Man. And like OG Spiderman, he’s wonderfully relatable.ġ0/10, would recommend, will watch again."I'm Spider-Man in my world." ―Spider-Man and Michelle Jones He has the classic Spiderman wit (“Yoink!”) and the stubborn determination, for worse or better. On the other hand… I say Spiderman is bad at being a superhero, but there are some parts he’s good at. It should have worked it would have been a nice touch. 2 (see Isaac’s post), this time it doesn’t work. Then, seemingly out of the blue, he starts acting like he considers himself Peter’s surrogate dad, or at least his mentor. But for the first half of the movie, Tony makes it clear that he considers Spiderman an asset and an ally. If you’re going to include Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, doing it by way of Tony Stark is…well, true to comic book canon. This emphasizes Tony Stark’s point that Spidey should stick to his friendly neighborhood. Spiderman spends most of the movie screwing up and causing collateral damage, from drainpipes to smacking the wrong guy in the forehead to…well, if you’ve seen the trailers you have some idea.Īny superhero antics are going to involve collateral damage, but in this movie it’s framed as Spiderman’s fault in particular. This isn’t just Iron Man crashing into a parked car after his First Flight or Thor getting backhanded by a fire-breathing metal giant. This is illustrated by a) the genuinely portrayed high school setting, b) the excellent performances of Tom Holland, Zendaya, and everyone else, and c) the fact that Peter is still really bad at being a superhero. It’s less than a year after Peter Parker started his vigilante career and a couple months after Tony Stark gave him a cool suit. Rather than an origin, this is a coming-of-age story. And no “with great power comes great responsibility.” Marvel expects the viewers to know Spiderman’s origin by now, so they jump us right into the action. No living spiders, only mechanical no mention of Uncle Ben, only young, pretty, and cool Aunt May no pearl necklace clattering to the ground – sorry, wrong franchise. A big part of this was not including an origin story. The movie was two hours long, but every scene was fun and engaging.
